When to use WOFF (Web Open Font Format)
- Supporting older browsers that predate WOFF2.
- Projects that need a single web font file with the widest browser compatibility.
- As the fallback after WOFF2 in an @font-face rule.
How WOFF compares to WOFF2 and TTF
WOFF compresses each font table with zlib, so it is typically much smaller than the equivalent TTF. WOFF2 uses Brotli and compresses further, so modern sites should serve WOFF2 first and keep WOFF as a fallback.
Ready-made CSS
The CSS in your download lists every format in order of preference. Browsers download only the first source they support, so including WOFF costs nothing for visitors on modern browsers:
src: url('icon-font.woff2') format('woff2'),
url('icon-font.woff') format('woff'),
url('icon-font.ttf') format('truetype');Next steps

WOFF icon font FAQ
Do I still need WOFF if I have WOFF2?
Every current major browser supports WOFF2, so WOFF only matters if you support older browsers. Keeping it is free: browsers download only the first format they support.
Does WOFF compression reduce icon quality?
No. WOFF compression is lossless, so your icons render exactly as they do in the TTF file.
